Magnet Definition and Various Kinds of Magnet
Magnet is an object or substance that produces magnetic field. This magnetic field is invisible and has enticement to the surrounding objects and can penetrate nonmagnetic barrier with a certain thickness. Although the magnetic field is able to pull the surrounding objects, but not all objects can be pulled, but only certain objects such as iron, steel, nickel and cobalt. Magnets cannot pull rock or wood that has no metallic elements.
There are two types and kinds of magnets; natural magnet and artificial magnet.
1. Natural Magnet
Natural magnet is an object or substance that produces a magnetic field that is formed in nature. Magnet is first discovered in Magnesia Turkey area; this is an example of natural magnet.
2. Artificial Magnet
Artificial magnet is an object or substance that produces a magnetic field that is deliberately created by human.
The examples are horseshoe magnet, U magnet or horseshoe magnets, chip magnet, bar magnet, cylinder magnet, and ring magnet.
The usefulness of magnets is very important to human life, in economic activities magnets are used to lift the container, in the field of transportation it can be used for modern railway.
