The definition of Team Teaching is teaching in teams. The term ‘team’ or ‘group’ describes a cohesiveness or intimate relationship among its members, so that, the tasks of a team is the responsibility of all members of the team.
In line with this definition, team teaching can be defined as a group of teachers or lecturers who teach in teams. A team consists of several members; in doing their job, they should do divisions of tasks and responsibilities.
LP3-ITB team defines team teaching as: a course for a particular group of students which is taught by more than one lecturer separately based on an agreed division of duty.
Meanwhile, if it is seen from Lines’ and Spellman’s experiences, Cindy Novotny and Fickes (in Mann) who carried out team teaching and Marleen Pugach’s statement, team teaching can be defined as two or more teachers who teach together in the same class and on the same time.
Why should a teacher or lecturer teach in team teaching?
There are some reasons in team teaching:
1. Team Teaching Philosophy
Team teaching allows more to teachers or lecturers to think of a change or improvement for learning than if they always teach in isolation.
2. Use of Team Teaching
In accordance with the development trend in education that is increasing need for cooperation or collaboration.
3. Development of Young Lecturer
It is a promising mode for giving opportunities to young or junior lecturer to be a team with the senior lecturer.
4. Learning Aspects
Learning aspects include the nature of the subjects or courses, the number of students, the variation in student background, and the ability of teachers or lecturers.
